The Red Sox ace was admitted Sunday

Update: Sale was released Monday afternoon and will rejoin the Red Sox in Houston in advance of ALCS Game 3 against the Astros. Boston beat writer Ian Browne tweeted the news, with Evan Drellich providing a Sox statement.

Sale stayed overnight at Mass General with a stomach illness Sunday night, and hopefully he’s feeling well enough by the time his next start rolls around. Postseason Sale is fun for everyone to watch. This time of year, those 24-hour sicknesses can get anyone.

Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital with a stomach illness on Sunday and will be kept overnight, the team announced.

Sale started Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday, allowing two runs in four innings in a no-decision against the Houston Astros, with five strikeouts and a season high-tying four walks.

It is not known whether Sale was affected by this illness during his Saturday start, but he averaged 92 mph on his four-seam fastball in Game 1, after averaging 95.8 mph during the regular season. In Sale’s other start this postseason, he averaged 94.6 mph on his four-seamer in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Yankees.

The Red Sox said that Sale would be kept overnight for observation, and any further updates would be released when available.
