Red Sox ace will be held overnight for observation
Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital with a stomach illness on Sunday and will be kept overnight, the team announced.
Sale started Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday, allowing two runs in four innings in a no-decision against the Houston Astros, with five strikeouts and a season high-tying four walks.
It is not known whether Sale was affected by this illness during his Saturday start, but he averaged 92 mph on his four-seam fastball in Game 1, after averaging 95.8 mph during the regular season. In Sale’s other start this postseason, he averaged 94.6 mph on his four-seamer in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Yankees.
Josh Reddick on Chris Sale: "It’s just a lot easier when he’s throwing 92-93 as opposed to 97. It’s not a comfortable at-bat but he’s finding ways to get outs. Anytime he’s not 100 percent you feel like you have an advantage."

The Red Sox said that Sale would be kept overnight for observation, and any further updates would be released when available.
