Nebraska will probably go winless for 1 day shy of a full 365

The Huskers’ last win came on Oct. 28, 2017 against Purdue. Oct. 27, 2018 against Bethune-Cookman is their best shot to get another one.

Welp. The Nebraska Cornhuskers dropped to 0-6 on the season with a 34-31 overtime loss to Northwestern on the road on Saturday. Despite leading 31-21 inside the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter, Northwestern scored a field goal followed by a TD with 12 seconds left to force overtime.

Nebraska threw an interception on fourth down on its OT possession, and Northwestern hit an easy FG to get the victory. This was that fourth-down disaster:

Nebraska’s start is the worst in program history:

Perhaps more importantly than the Huskers’ now 0-6 record: Nebraska now hasn’t won a football game in in 350 days.

That’s almost a full year, folks! The last time Nebraska won was on Oct. 28, 2017, when the Huskers beat Purdue 25-24 on the road.

A brief list of fun things going on in the world the last time the Huskers won:

  • This was your weekend at the movie theater:
 Box Office Mojo
  • Also on this date, Cardi B’s Bodak Yellow (Money Moves) was the No. 1 song in the country, per Billboard.
  • Netflix’s Stranger Things season two was released the day before.
  • The first charges in Robert Mueller’s Russia probe were filed.

Obviously, this is a pretty limited list, since this is one specific date of the year last fall.

Probably, Nebraska will win in two weeks against Bethune-Cookman.

Coming into this game, Nebraska had one of the lowest win probability percentages of its remaining five games. It looked like Scott Frost’s best chance for win No. 1 would come next week against Bethune Cookman:

1. Oct. 27: Bethune-Cookman 97 percent: OK seriously, if Nebraska somehow doesn’t pull a win off against its currently 3-3 FCS opponent (scheduled on the fly due to the Akron game getting canceled), I just won’t even know what to say. Forfeit the rest of the season? Maybe!

2. Nov. 10: vs. Illinois, 68 percent: This Illinois team hung tough against Penn State last month for three quarters and easily won at Rutgers, so we’ll see exactly where Nebraska stands in the bottom of the B1G.

3. Oct. 20: vs. Minnesota, 47 percent

4. Oct. 13: at Northwestern, 36 percent

5. Nov. 17: vs. Michigan State, 32 percent

Now, that’ll be the Huskers’ best chance to get win No. 1 most likely.

Nebraska’s upcoming games against Minnesota, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Iowa look various degrees of daunting as well, so hopefully Nebraska can beat Bethune-Cookman so Husker fans can enjoy the sweet smell of victory for the first time in awhile.

In the meantime, stay strong, Nebraska fans.
