The Gators played a song that LSU’s banned its own band from playing.
Hi, I, Morgan Moriarty, a lifelong Florida Gator fan, hereby declare LSU-Florida as the Gators’ best rivalry. In the second quarter of Florida’s game against LSU, the Gator marching band played “Neck.”
Just confirmed with a clarinet player: #Gators band played Neck. In the 2nd quarter. This is the level of petty I want in the SEC. https://t.co/4LwrKJYBnb

We’ll update this post as soon as a recording emerges online.
What is “Neck” you ask? It’s a song, played by some school bands, that has caused some controversy in the past at LSU. Here’s a brief history:
That’s “Neck,” the Cameo and Dem Franchize Boyz song “Talkin’ Out Da Side of Ya Neck.” On its own it’s a fine tune. You’ve probably heard a different band’s rendition at some point. But LSU fans have added some interesting vocals to their band’s rendition. You don’t have to even listen closely to hear it.
This has landed the band in trouble in recent years. In 2010 the song was banned, but brought back in 2013 and used sparingly for that reason. LSU passed out literature a couple of years ago to help curb the chant.
It’s banned because of this explicit chant:
Florida’s band playing it just further taunts LSU, and it also gives us MUSICAL DRAMA in this rivalry for three years in a row.
In 2016, Florida beat LSU in Baton Rouge after weeks of back and forth and public feuding thanks to Hurricane Matthew postponed the game in October. After the Gators won 16-10 on a goal line stand, they played LSU’s rap hype song in the locker room:

And in 2017, my favorite MUSICAL DRAMA moment of them all — these two Gator fans livid at LSU’s band for playing over a Tom Petty tribute:

And before that game last year, LSU’s band played “Neck” for some Florida players warming up:

Thank you, LSU-Florida, for somehow getting more and more heated each and every year.
