Notre Dame Fighting Irish
With Ian Book on the shelf with an injury, Notre Dame had no issues taking care of business against a reeling Florida State Seminoles team, crushing the Seminoles at home by a score of 42-13.
Saturday’s contest against Syracuse will be a much more challenging affair and Head Coach Brian Kelly announced early in the week that Book would return to practice Tuesday and be back under center against the Orange. Book’s ability to stretch the field has made the Fighting Irish much more dangerous with him under center than Brandon Wimbush.
Since the start of the 2017 season, the Fighting Irish are 8-1 SU and 6-3 ATS in nine games against ACC opponents per the OddsShark College Football Database.
Syracuse Orange
Syracuse entered the 2018 season on the heels of three straight 4-8 SU seasons. Things have finally clicked for the Orange this year as the offense is averaging 44.4 points per game in leading the team to an 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS record.
The Orange have two outright upsets under their belt this season in wins over Florida and North Carolina State, and they also pushed Clemson to the limit on the road in a 27-23 loss as 24.5-point underdogs.
Saturday’s total is set at 61 points. The OVER is 6-1 in Notre Dame’s last seven games and 4-1 in Syracuse’s last five games.
A road game against the USC Trojans next Saturday still looms for the Fighting Irish, but the Trojans are having a down year this season with a 5-5 SU and 3-7 ATS record. The biggest road block between Notre Dame and a spot in the College Football Playoff is Syracuse, who could earn one of the biggest wins in program history with an upset this Saturday at Yankee Stadium.
