The Timberwolves’ new Prince-inspired jerseys are perfect

Also this week, we celebrate Serge Ibaka’s cooking show, several terrific Halloween costumes, and more.

Welcome to B-Sides! The NBA is still off to a ridiculous start, with players dropping 50-point games left and right. By the time this season is over, a 70-point game may be the new 50-point game.

The Bucks finally lost, so we no longer have any undefeated teams left. Meanwhile, the Warriors have climbed back to the top of the Western Conference, so order has been restored. In more unfortunate news, the Rockets are 1-5 and things look bleak.

But enough of what’s sad. Let’s get to B-Sides, the best moments of the week that keep us coming back to this wacky league.

1. The Timberwolves have Prince-inspired uniforms and they are truly wonderful

Dearly beloved
We have gathered here today
To dedicate B-Sides
To these uniforms

The “City Edition” jerseys are such a great idea from Nike. The initiative will allow us to see some really creative uniforms in the years to come, and Minnesota knocked it out of the park with this one.

Look at the detail in the numbers with Prince’s symbol! The colors! This is all perfect. And shout out to the Timberwolves for just tweeting great Prince lyrics. 10/10 all around.

2. This picture of Boban Marjanovic and Kristen Chenoweth

Boban is 7’3. Kristen is 4’11. Boban is an NBA player. Kristen is a an actress and singer, most notably my favorite Glinda the Good Witch from Wicked on Broadway.

This is the NBA x Broadway crossover my heart has always needed. And while I’ve got you here, you should watch NBC’s Wicked Halloween special celebrating it’s 15th anniversary.

3. Serge Ibaka has a cooking show where he cooks things like ... brains

Yes, this is all true. Ibaka is of Congolese and Spanish descent, and he uses his YouTube channel to show off meals he loved growing up in Congo. His guests have included Bismack Biyombo, Cari Champion, and DeMar DeRozan. He made DeMar eat worms!

But my favorite was the Bench Mob episode. He cooked the team lamb brain with some “herbs and spices” and their reactions were a real delight.

You want lamb brain?

DeMar would you like some fried worms?

It’s actually an interesting show where you learn about different types of food, Ibaka, and his friends. I just will not be eating any of that. I’d rather watch it on my computer.

4. Iman Shumpert’s daughter won Halloween

SHE DRESSED UP AS A LOOFAH I DON’T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY EXCEPT KIDS ARE PERFECT.

LOOK AT HER!

5. Klay Thompson came in 2nd dressed as Jackie Moon

Remember when Klay Thompsonscored 52 points against the Bulls and said he felt like Jackie Moon? He took that literally two days later, on Halloween.

6. And JaVale McGee as the Grinch takes 3rd place

He wore it with a fanny pack.

He stretched in it.

And he did his entire post game interview in it.

7. Russ singing ‘Baby Shark’ in a $520 Givenchy shirt.

The caption reminds us that athletes are dorky parents too.

Here is the shirt. I believe Russ cut the sleeves off of a $520 t-shirt.

9. Goodbye to Headband Kyrie

Headband Kyrie was one of my favorite things of the early season. The longer hair, the beard, the Skylar Diggins-Smith-style headband. I loved all of it.

But he wasn’t playing that well in it, and of course he dropped 31 points on 10-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-7 from behind the arc the game after he ditched the look.

But I’m extremely with Jayson Tatum here. I knew I liked that kid.

Goodbye, Headband Kyrie. Until we meet again.

10. DeMar DeRozan’s San Antonio-inspired shoes

DeMar has fully embraced San Antonio and it could not make me more happy for him. These Kobe A.D.’s are so subtle, yet so great. I love the nod to the retro Spurs logo.

11. Josh Hart wearing Pokimane merch

Josh Hart is one of the coolest guys in the league and I will spend B-Sides this year convincing you (and his teammates). Over the summer, he wore a Las Vegas Aces A’ja Wilson jersey to Summer League. Now, he’s wearing Pokimane merch to a Lakers game.

Pokimane is a Twitch streamer who currently plays the massively popular Fortnite game. She was paired up with Hart at the Fornite ProAm this summer.

Fortnite forever.

My favorite photo of the week

Does this count as a photo? I don’t really care. It’s my column and I can do what I want with it.

I love this “photo” because with every day LeBron James becomes more comfortable with letting us know he’s the world’s biggest basketball fan. He’s just a kid from Akron who loves the game, its legends, and all of its history, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

See ya next week, friends. Tweet me your B-Sides, and I’ll include them in the next round.
