Dolphins at Texans OddsShark Matchup Report

Houston Texans

In most cases, an 0-3 SU and ATS start to an NFL season is a death sentence to a team’s playoff chances. But thanks to four straight wins and the struggles of the rest of the division, the Texans enter this week’s action with sole possession of first place in the AFC South.

With a healthy J.J. Watt racking up seven sacks so far this season, the Texans defense ranks eighth best in the NFL allowing 20.6 points per game and has allowed only 12 points per games over its last three games.

The Texans have historically fared well against the Dolphins with a 7-1 SU record in their last eight games against Miami and a 3-1 ATS record in their last four per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Miami Dolphins

Miami’s season has had the opposite trajectory of Houston’s season. The Dolphins stormed out of the gate with a 3-0 SU and ATS record and looked like a team that would contend for a playoff spot. A 38-7 loss to New England crushed a lot of that momentum and then injuries started to pile up.

The Dolphins are 1-3 SU and ATS over their last four games and will be forced to start Brock Osweiler at quarterback again this Thursday as Ryan Tannehill recovers from a shoulder injury. Miami is 1-7 SU and ATS in its last eight games on the road.

Thursday night’s total is set at 44 points. The UNDER is 7-2 in Houston’s last nine games.

A matchup between the injury-riddled Dolphins and the Texans may not be a matchup that football fans are clamoring for on Thursday night, but with both teams sitting at 4-3 SU there are major playoff implications for both. This would have been a more interesting game if Miami were healthy, but with Tannehill and a handful of receivers out against this hot Texans defense, points may be hard to come by for the Dolphins.
